Parishes of Llanharan & Brynna
Back in 2011, the Governing Body of The Church in Wales commissioned a report into the future of the Church in Wales. In 2012 the report entitled ‘2020 Vision’ was produced and recommendations were made to move the church forward into its next century (The Church in Wales was formed in 1920 with a break from the Church of England and disestablishment). One of the recommendations was the formation of Ministry Areas. These are collections of old parishes put together for legal, financial and staffing reasons and to work forward for the future of the church. Llan Ministry Area is made up of 5 previous parishes (Llantrisant, Pontyclun, Llantwit Fardre, Llanharan and Brynna and Tonyrefail and Gilfach Goch) covering a large area with a population of 70,000 people . There are 12 churches in the Ministry Area, St. David’s Tonyrefail, St Albans Tonyrefail, St Barnabus Gilfach Goch, St Illtyd’s Llantwit Fardre, Llantrisant Parish Church, St David’s Church Miskin, St Michael’s Beddau, St Paul’s Pontyclun, St Illtyd’s Church Llanharry, St Anne’s Talygarn, Ss Julius & Aaron Llanharan and St Peter’s Brynna.
